A member of civilian Volunteers Organization (CVO) was killed while his companion was wounded when suspected members of New Peoole’s Army (NPA) shot them while hunting wild animals in the mountainous area of Zamboanga del Sur.
Philippine Army 1st Infantry Division (1ID) Spokesman Capt Albert Caber identified the fatality as Guillermo Villacrusis.
Taken to Bayug Municipal Health Center for treatment was Wilson Torres.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo revealed that the incident occurred at around 8:30 am in Brgy San Isidro , Bayug in the said province.
Initial investigation revealed that the victims were with Virgilio Villacrusis hunting a wild pig in the said forest when suspected NPA members fired at them.
The victims managed to return fire that resulted to a 20 minute fire fight that led to the killing of the CVO and wounding of his companion.
After the incident, the rebels fled towards Sitio Dumagang , Brgy Balumbunan and Brgy Matunog.
Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigation to the incident.
