Kanye West has issued an unreserved apology to Taylor Swift after interrupting her acceptance speech at the VMA awards.

His interruption threw the entire event into chaos.

West wrote on his blog in block capital letters: "I'M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD'VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!"

Kanye West is well known for losing his temper at awards ceremonies, usually because he himself has not won. The rapper has thrown fits at VMAs, the Grammys and the American Music Awards.

This time the rapper freaked out because the award for best female video went to country pop sweetheart Taylor Swift and not Beyonce.

Swift won for her video "You Belong With Me" and said, "I always wondered what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but never actually thought it would happen," when she accepted the award on Sunday at Radio City Music Hall New York.

But then West took to the stage and ruined her moment. He grabbed the microphone 19 year old Swift was holding and said: "Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."

Thrown by the interruption, Swift abandoned the rest of her speech.

Beyonce, who was in the audience, looked appalled.

When Beyonce won video of the year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" she told the audience that she remembered how excited she was when she first won a VMA when she was 17 and asked Swift to come out on stage to repeat her acceptance speech.

Swift did exactly that. Later, she refused to get into a war of words with the rapper, saying, "I don't know him and I don't want to start something."

The crowd booed Kanye West's named each time it was mentioned throughout the rest of the event.
